The diplomatic tussle between India and Canada, triggered by the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, has sent ripples of concern through Indians whose family members and other relatives are currently residing in Canada. The friction between the two nations has cast a shadow of uncertainty over the futures of scores of Indian nationals who are residing in Canada either for education or for work. A Navi Mumbai native Raj Bheda, whose family members live in Canada expressed concerns about the ongoing tensions between the two countries. “My sister and other relatives are in Canada and they are holding green card. My father is also there on tourist visa. Now the condition is unbearable. We are unsure about the current situation and exact problem,” said Raj Bheda. The diplomatic ties between India and Canada turned sour after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged a potential involvement of Indian agents in the killing of the Khalistani separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar and later expelled an Indian diplomat. In a tit-for-tat move, India also kicked out a senior Canadian diplomat from the country. India has denied all the allegations made by Trudeau and termed it to be “absurd” and “motivated”.
