What's Worth Streaming: Here’s what’s coming to Amazon Prime Video in January 2021

What’s Worth Streaming

Speculative historical drama ‘One Night in Miami,’ as well as a new Anna Paquin series, and a castaway survival series are set to debut

“One Night in Miami” is a fictional account that looks at the struggles four Black icons faced and the vital role they each played in the civil rights movement and cultural upheaval of the 1960s.

Amazon Prime Video is ringing in the new year with a handful of originals, including another Oscar contender.

That would be “One Night in Miami” (Jan. 15), the directorial debut of Emmy- and Oscar-winner Regina King. The drama, based on a stage play, is a fictional account of a meeting in 1964 between four Black icons: Cassius Clay, Malcolm X, Sam Cooke and Jim Brown. The movie opened at Sundance earlier this year, and has garnered critical raves.

And for binging, Amazon is also adding all eight seasons of the Showtime serial-killer drama “Dexter” (Jan. 1) and all nine seasons of the sitcom “How I Met Your Mother” (Jan. 19). (Pro tip: Skip the last seasons of each.)

Here’s the complete lineup, as of Dec. 20 (release dates are subject to change):
